Collimating Lens Attachment

Collimating Lens Attachment — US$95.00

The Collimating Lens Attachment slides into the 1.25″ inside diameter of the SPPDI® 2″ Telescope Adapter. The Collimating Lens Attachment comprises a commercial 1.25″ eyepiece extender tube, with an achromatic collimating lens installed in the narrow end, and an empty RMS-threaded microscope objective holder installed in the opposite end. The output collimated beam has a diameter of about 1/2″. An 8 or 9 mm diameter portion of the beam may be focused by means of a microscope objective or achromatic lens to produce a converging beam with the appropriate focal ratio for the article under test.

When combined with a microscope objective or achromatic lens, this arrangement serves as a “transmission sphere.” When used as a transmission sphere, the output beam may be used for interferometry of optical systems which have focal ratios outside the SPPDI “normal” range of f/4 to f/12. (A transmission sphere setup should not be used for measuring “fast” (<f/4) beams produced by aspheric mirrors at their CoC.)
